From 31 January, animals, animal products, plants and plant products subject to biosecurity checks will be classified according to risk.<br \/>\nBased on the inherent risk (high, medium or low) that the commodity poses to food safety and biosecurity, combined with any specific country of origin risk.<br \/>\n<\/h4><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tm-spacer\" id=\"tm-spacer-69ea179a6ac02\"><\/div>\n\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element  tm-animation move-up\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Animals, animal products, plants and plant products subject to biosecurity controls will be classified in terms of risk assessment:<br \/>\n\u25cf High risk<br \/>\n\u25cf Medium risk<br \/>\n\u25cf Low risk<br \/>\n(based on the inherent risk (high, medium or low) that the commodity poses to food safety and biosecurity, combined with any specific risk associated with the country of origin).<\/p>\n<p><strong>31 January 2024.<\/strong> there has been the introduction of health certificates for EU imports of medium-risk animal products, plants, plant products and high-risk food (and feed) of non-animal origin.<br \/>\n<strong>30 April 2024.<\/strong> there will be the introduction of documentary and risk-based identification and physical checks on products of animal origin, plants, plant products and food (and feed) not originating from EU medium-risk animals.<br \/>\n<strong>31 October 2024.<\/strong> declarations on the safety and security of EU imports will come into force. In addition to this, the government will introduce a limited data set on imports.<\/p>\n<p>- Medium-risk animal products: Export Health Certificates (EHCs) will be required for exports from the European Union to the UK.<br \/>\n- Plants and plant products of medium risk: Phytosanitary (PC) certificates will be required for European Union exports to the UK<br \/>\n- Low-risk animal products: pre-declaration of exports from the European Union to the UK will continue; products will still need to arrive through points of entry with a Border Inspection Post, but will not be required to have an EHC.<br \/>\n- Low-risk plants and plant products will not require pre-notification or a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) for export from the European Union to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Simplified EHC (Export Health Certificate) certificates for the export of animal products from the European Union to the UK will be available from the end of April 2023. With a view to supporting the trade and certifiers, we will extend and develop the existing facility to use digital certification.<\/p>\n<p>- Medium-risk animal products: 100% documentary checks and 1% - 30% indicative physical and identification checks to take place at UK Border Control Points (BCPs) for exports from the EU to the UK.<br \/>\n- Medium-risk plants and plant products: risk-based documentary, physical and identity checks carried out at border crossings and UK checkpoints for EU exports to the UK.<br \/>\n- Inspections of high-risk plants and plant products will be carried out from the point of destination to border crossings or control points for exports from the EU to the UK.<br \/>\n- Start piloting trusted trader schemes for animal products and authorised trader status for plants and plant products.<\/p>\n<p>High-risk live animals exported from the EU to the UK will continue to require pre-notification, EHC testing and inspection. In 2024, inspections will move to Border Inspection Posts as infrastructure readiness allows.
