WHAT WILL YOU NEED?
You will need the Customs Declaration Service Immediate (CDSI) reference number that you received when you made your declaration. It starts with the letters 'CDSI' followed by 12 numbers and letters. You will receive a different reference number for each declaration you file through Customs. Make sure you provide the full, correct CDSI reference number. Providing an incorrect number will delay the clearance of goods.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE PAYMENT TO REACH THE HMRC?
The time it takes for payments to reach HMRC depends on the payment method.
The same or next day
If you pay by:
- validation of payments via an online bank account
- Internet or telephone banking (Faster Payment)
- CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payment System)
- with an online debit card or corporate credit card
3 working days
When paying via Bacs (Bankers Automated Clearing System).
HOW TO MAKE A PAYMENT?
Approve the payment via your online bank account. You can pay directly via your online or mobile bank account. When you are ready to pay, start the payment for the customs declaration service. Select the option "pay via bank account". You will then be asked to log into your online or mobile bank account to authorise payment. Payment is usually immediate, but sometimes it takes up to 2 hours for the payment to appear in your account.
To pay in this way, you must have your online banking details ready:
- Bacs, CHAPS, online or telephone banking
- Account details to use
- Billing code
- Account number
- Account name
- 20 05 17 23372545 HMRC Customs Duty Schemes
If the account is located abroad:
- Bank Identifier Code (BIC), Account Number (IBAN), Account Name
- BARCGB22 GB16BARC20051723372545 HMRC duty schemes
If paying online or by phone, we recommend checking the maximum transaction limit set by your bank. HMRC's banking address is: Barclays Bank PLC, 1 Churchill Place, London, United Kingdom E14 5HP
Payment by debit card or corporate credit card
You can pay online using
- a personal debit card
- company debit card
- a company credit card
You must pay the full amount due and the maximum amount you can pay in one transaction is £97,000.
A fee is charged for payments made using a company credit card or company debit card. This fee is not refundable.
No fee is charged for payments with a personal debit card.
Payment by cheque
Make the cheque payable to 'HM Revenue and Customs only' and write your reference number on the back.
Make sure that the cheque is guaranteed (by the bank's individual endorsement), otherwise the clearance of goods may be delayed.
Send cheque to: HM Revenue & Customs, CDS Accounting, 5th Floor, Three New Bailey, New Bailey Street, Salford M3 5FS.
Do not fold the cheque or enclose it with other documents.
SUMMARY
Once the declaration is submitted, a payment method will appear on the declaration, either a deferral account or a cash payment. Once the declaration is submitted, a CDSI number will be generated with which payment can be made through CDS.
