Changed deadline for security declaration for EU imports!.

From 31 January 2025, the mandatory submission of a security declaration (S&S) for imports from the European Union will come into force. The postponement gives companies more time to comply with the new regulations, and J. Dauman Logistics offers support to properly prepare and comply with the new guidelines.

S&S - What does it mean?

Safety and Security declarations (SDSs) are documents that aim to ensure security in the international supply chain. The regulations require companies importing goods into the UK from the European Union to provide details of shipments, enabling authorities to assess the risks associated with transporting goods.

Election announcement and implications for S&S

It was initially planned to make S&S declarations mandatory for EU imports from 31 October 2024. However, the announcement of the general election in May this year put plans to prepare the industry for this change on hold. Restrictions on government communications were in place during the pre-election period, which prevented an extensive information campaign targeting businesses. As a result, the new government, after reviewing the situation and consulting with the industry, postponed the mandatory date to 31 January 2025.

Reminder of current obligations

Currently, companies importing from non-EU countries are required to submit S&S declarations. These companies are encouraged to start complying with the new regulations for EU imports as well, before January 2025, in order to have more time to implement the new procedures. The authorities are planning additional outreach activities and preparatory sessions to help companies better understand the upcoming changes.
