Goods in luggage and VAT and customs clearance in the UK - what you need to know
Goods in luggage vs VAT and customs clearance in the UK - what you need to know.
Exporting goods to the UK in luggage or a small car does not exempt you from VAT or customs clearance.
In the case of commercial goods no duty free limit applies - each entry must be notified.
Above £2,500, 1,000 kg or, in the case of regulated goods, required full customs declaration.
At lower values, simplifications are possible, but not in every sales model and not in every import structure.
Example from practice: VAT adjustment after a few months because the entry was treated as logistics and not as a formal import.
