Amendments to the customs legislation have been published to include updates to goods codes and tariff quota documents. The changes include updating references to documents containing the classification of imported goods and adding, simplifying and replacing commodity codes. Goods codes that are no longer used have been removed and missing goods codes have been added. In addition, duty rates have been reduced for six commodity codes, relating to aluminium road wheels and certain continuous fibreglass products. The amended regulations also cover special procedures and outward processing, exemptions from import duties and establishment. In addition, the definition of 'quota table' in the tariff quota regulations has been amended.
SI 2024/563 amends the customs provisions to reflect updates to the goods codes and tariff quota documents.
The Customs (Tariff and Miscellaneous Amendments) (No. 2) Regulations 2024 amend various customs regulations to update references to documents containing information on the classification of imported goods ("goods codes"). The documents add, simplify and replace commodity codes, update and correct descriptions and remove commodity codes that are no longer used in UK tariff documents. They also add missing commodity codes in authorised use documents. Finally, the documents reduce the duty rate on a total of six commodity codes relating to aluminium road wheels and certain continuous fibreglass products. The amended regulations are:
-Customs (Special Procedures and Outward Processing) (Exit from the EU) Regulations 2018. (SI 2018/1249);
-The Customs (Exemption from Import Duties and Miscellaneous Amendment) (Exit from EU) Regulations 2020. (SI 2020/1431);
-Tariff (Establishment) (Exit from EU) 2020 (SI 2020/1430) Regulations.
The Regulations also amend the Customs (Tariff Quotas) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020. (SI 2020/1432), amending the definition of "quota table" in regulation 2(1) to refer to the updated version of that table. The Regulations come into force on 17 May 2024.
