Important information about upcoming border controls in the UK!
On 19 April, it was reported that health and safety controls on imports of goods from the EU will not be 'switched on' as planned, i.e. from 30 April 2024. Derfa's press office warns that this information is not true - the controls, as announced, will start from 30 April!

Common User Charge rates confirmed!
The Common User Charge rates have been confirmed on the Gov.UK website. The government is introducing a Common User Charge on all eligible imports of animal products, plants and plant products entering the UK via the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel in Kent. The introduction of the new SPS import controls aims to protect the UK's food supply chain, food industry, agricultural industry and environment from biohazards. The fees are to fund the infrastructure of government border checkpoints where the checks will be carried out. Click, read more!

This delivers on HMRC's commitment to offer more digital options to provide customers with the modern and fast solutions they expect from a modern tax and customs authority.
March 24, 2024 CDS changes for goods moving to Northern Ireland come into effect!
HMRC has announced changes to the completion of declarations for goods imported into Northern Ireland using the customs declaration service. The forthcoming changes will come into effect on 24 March 2024 and will affect goods imported into Northern Ireland from the UK and goods imported into Northern Ireland from countries outside the UK and EU.
Biosecurity control - risk classification
A reminder! From 31 January, animals, animal products, plants and plant products subject to biosecurity controls will be classified by risk. Based on the inherent risk (high, medium or low) that the commodity poses to food safety and biosecurity, combined with any specific risk related to the country of origin.

Packaging and labelling. Legal requirements for the provision of food information to consumers vary by region in the UK. With the exception of Northern Ireland, references to European Union (EU) regulations should be understood to mean retained EU law. In Northern Ireland, EU food law applies. The retained version of EU Regulation 1169/2011 on the provision of food information applies to food businesses in the UK.
