New digital changes to alcohol excise duty from 2025.
In March 2025, a new digital service will be introduced to simplify excise duty management processes for alcohol producers, including rectifiers, compound alcohol producers and cider makers. This is part of an ongoing review of alcohol excise that is bringing significant changes for the industry.
Updated POAO SPS transit notifications!
From 30 April 2024, for overland POAO shipments entering or leaving the UK (England, Scotland and Wales) or imported POAO shipments terminating CTC traffic in the UK, the person in charge of the load (PRFL) and the five designated contacts in the Import Products, Animals, Food and Feed System (IPAFFS) were notified on the IPAFFS dashboard and by email or SMS if SPS checks were required. From 3 September there will be changes!

Common User Charge (CUC) invoices will be issued from 22:00 on 5 August!
Companies that imported sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) goods on or after 30 April 2024 and that were eligible for inspection at the Sevington Border Control Post (BCP) will receive their first digital CUC invoice by email on 5 August from 10pm from Shared Services Connected Limited (SSCL).

URGENT!!! Blackwall tunnel closures in May and June!
Important information for exporters and importers! The Blackwall Tunnel will be closed to southbound traffic for several weekends in May and June to support work on the Blackwall Tunnel's northbound carriageway. We invite you to find out more. The closures are necessary to help implement the road configuration for the new Silvertown Tunnel, which will open in 2025.
On 17 May, changes to customs regulations come into force, changing the commodity codes!
Amendments to the customs legislation have been published to include updates to goods codes and tariff quota documents. The changes include updating references to documents containing the classification of imported goods and adding, simplifying and replacing commodity codes. Goods codes that are no longer used have been removed and missing goods codes have been added. In addition, duty rates have been reduced for six commodity codes, relating to aluminium road wheels and certain continuous fibreglass products. The amended regulations also cover special procedures and outward processing, exemptions from import duties and establishment. In addition, the definition of 'quota table' in the tariff quota regulations has been amended.
